Z Fish Report (10/7/11)

The rains are holding off, and the rain season may be over, unless hurricane Irwin doesn’t do what is predicted, and make a hard right turn. Plus if Irwin collides with tropical storm Jova, which is also expected to make a hard right turn, the combined result probably will not see any decrease in strength. We’ll know more about that situation in the next 24 hours.

But, for now the beaches are clearing up and the inshore is still yielding some great action.

The blue water fishing is mostly taking place in the 8 to 12 mile areas, and is holding steady with one to two sailfish per boat per day, and a couple of nice dorado. Francisco, on the super panga Huntress fished earlier in the week, releasing a sailfish and a small blue marlin. Both were taken at the 8 mile mark, and on a heading straight out of Zihuatanejo Bay.

Richard Minney of New Zealand made the long flight here to get in on the great roosterfish action we are having. He has not been disappointed. Fishing by himself, with Adolfo on the panga Dos Hermanos, he got 8 huge roosters on day one, 3 large jack crevalle, and lots of small game like black skipjacks. The roosters were between 40 and 60 pounds. He took the next day off for recovery time.

On the first day they had gone south to the antennas, so they went north the second day of fishing. The fish were not has big, but the numbers were fantastic. He caught 28 smaller sized roosters on the second day. He took the next day off for recovery time.

Today they are in the blue water for sailfish and dorado. Hopefully I have a chance to make an update later this afternoon. When Richard first emailed he said he wanted to fish for 6 days. If he keeps getting excellent fishing and taking days off, there is no way he will get in his 6 days …Tough isn’t it?
