Z Fish Report (11/15/12)

The blue water is practically right on the beach, with about an 84° surface temperature to the north of Zihuatanejo and 86° to the south.

The offshore fishing action for sailfish and dorado went way down as compared to the last couple of weeks, which is confusing as we are in the best moon period of the month. The average is only about 1 sailfish and a dorado per day for each boat. Plus, early this morning we had a 6.1 earthquake roll through the area. It was centered about 100 miles away, so there was no damage, but it is guaranteed to rattle the fish. It will take about 48 hours for the game fish to settle down to a normal pattern again. Cheva, on the panga Dos Hermanos II, did do a bit better than the average. He fished 3 days releasing 2 sailfish a day, and got 2 dorado over the three day span.

Inshore for roosterfish has even been a bit on the tough side, but mostly due to the very clear water close to the beach. We have actually been looking for a bit off colored water to get any action from the boat wary roosters. We haven’t been getting the numbers of roosters this week as the past few weeks, but there has been very good action on the less wary jack crevalle. It really is not so much they are less wary, it is mostly due to they travel in schools and the competition is fierce.

Adolfo, on the panga Dos Hermanos, has been fishing all week for roosters and getting 3 to 4 a day, plus lot of jack crevalle. He is using spin gear with surface poppers and also live bait.

Michael Smith of Boise Idaho fly fished with Adolfo Jr. and me for two days down at Puerto Vicente Guerrero. The only roosters we found were in the off colored water near a river mouth. We brought 7 roosters to within fly casting distance, but did not get a hook up. We did have a lot of excitement on jack crevalle however.
