Z Fish Report (12/8/12)

With the blue water on the beach, and the surface temperatures about 84°, the fishing slowed down a bit during the full moon period. It is again picking up a bit and next week should be good.

The offshore fishing is seeing 1 to 2 sailfish a day per boat, and dorado became scarce again.

The inshore is seeing a lot of jack crevalle and sierras. But, probably the best action under the full moon was the night fishing around the rock pinnacles in front of Ixtapa for the barracuda. They are one of the best eating fish we have in these waters, and very similar to a wahoo for flavor. Gord Roberts with Noe, of the panga Porpy, and emailed me this:

“We went Barracuda fishing on Wednesday Nov 28th from 6:30 pm till 12:00 am, we had a great night got 11 fish on about 15 hits so it was a busy night. I have never done this before and would highly recommend the experience. Noe was spot on with his location and baiting, we only moved through three areas after we started fishing including the trip back”.

The roosterfish action is a bit on the tough side, unless you are willing to travel. The best location is still the areas around Puerto Vicente Guerrero. The reason for this is the clear water is on the beach to the South, and the roosters are very boat wary. To the North, the water is a turbid green, and it is difficult for roosters to locate bait in turbid water. Paul Phillips, and his wife Dorris Alexander of British Columbia did make the long run to the river mouths down at Puerto Vicente Guerrero and they found the roosters. They ended up releasing 6 weighing from 30 to 35 pounds.
