Z Fish Report (5/3/18)

Offshore (average) surface water temperature - Includes from the 5 - 6 mile mark at the 100 fathom line, then to the 1,000 fathom line being about 32 miles: 84° (the April cold water current is gone until next year).

Inshore (average) surface temperature. From the beach to about 5 miles: 81°

 Blue water: (Chlorophyll amounts and surface temps from Terrafin SST) The blue water is about 16 miles. Clean water starts from the back side of the waves, on out to the blue water.

Offshore: Tomorrow (Friday) is the start of the annual kill sailfish tournament here. There will be a lot of sailfish taken, and a 30 kilo fish (66 pounds) will probably place in the money. Not too many years ago it would have taken a 45 kilo fish (100 pounds) to be in the money. They just can’t see the writing on the wall. There will be at least 150 boats entered in the tournament.

There are yellowfin tuna to 30 pounds out about 28 miles.

Inshore: With the 80° water coming back, is producing sierras, small dorado, and a few roosters. The dorado action has been very good. Michael and Sarah Ferrell of Shreveport, LA fished a day with Adolfo for a decent day of fishing. The afternoon winds have been a bit strong this week, and the ride back from down at the Petatlan area was a bit rough, as it has been all week.
