The 84° blue water has not changed in the last couple
of weeks and out about 6 miles, following the 100 fathom curve, with clean
water just off the beach. With no rain this last week or storms the Offshore fishing got back to normal. The boats are averaging 2 to 3 sailfish a day
each. The tuna are still here, but have moved back out beyond 30 miles. An
occasional dorado is also being taken.

Getting a decent report from the captains has been tough this week.
Nobody had any clients. Even Santiago, the sailfish No. 3 tag and release captain
in the world for several years running, had no clients. So he took a vacation up
to Arizona and New Mexico, fly fishing the San Juan and visited the Grand
Canyon with his longtime client John Torres.
Santiago with a San Juan rainbow |
Len Howard of Wenatchee, WA fished out of the Bahia La Tortuga Fishing
Lodge in Puerto Vicente Guerrero, catching jacks and sailfish on the fly rod.
The inshore action has improved now the high waves have settled down. Talking to Cheva, of the panga Dos Hermanos
II, he also had no clients, but is chomping at the bit to get back out. He says
there is good offshore fishing for sailfish, and excellent fishing for the
roosters on the beaches.

The little fish is the cute one. The big ones look a bit dangerous....
