Z Fish Report (7/11/13)

It is the nesting season and we are seeing a lot of
sea turtles along the coast
The 84° blue water has not changed in the last three weeks and out about 6 miles, following the 100 fathom curve, with clean water just off the beach. We did have a close encounter with tropical storm Eric, with a port closure and 25-35 mile an hour winds along the coastal reaches. A few hundred yards inland and we only had rain. For a tropical storm, we didn’t get much rain either. In 24 hours, we only got about 4 inches, which is nothing compared to the 6 inches in 4 hours or 12 inches in 12 hours we can get from these storms.
A roosterfish coming to the boat
Offshore fishing got back to normal starting Monday, and things should improve in the next couple of weeks as the new moon was on Monday.  The boats are averaging 2 to 3 sailfish a day each.

Most of the action starts from the outer edge of the current form weed line at about 4 miles, and then on out to 14 miles.

The 38 foot Luhrs cruiser Had E Nuff, acting as a private boat on Tuesday, with the owner on board, went out to the 30 mile mark. They found 12 football sized yellowfin tuna at 27 miles, a huge 50 pound dorado, and released 2 sailfish.

fishing with me down at Puerto Vicente Guerrero

The inshore action, especially the roosterfish action, has improved a lot. On Monday, Adolfo on the panga Dos Hermanos took James and Harley Tapley, and Roslynn Harmon of South Carolina to Barra Potosi and Playa Blanca. After catching 8 roosters between 35 and 45 pounds on surface poppers and live bait, they were back at the dock by 11:00 with three much worn out anglers. On Tuesday they did another 4 roosters and a nice dorado, including a double on 40 pound roosters.

Michael and David Horvath of Indiana fished with captain Rody out of the Bahia de la Tortuga Fishing Lodge in Puerto Vicente Guerrero for two nice roosters on a popper and live bait, under some real nasty high surf conditions on Wednesday.
