It is the nesting season and we are seeing a lot of sea turtles along the coast |
The 84° blue water has not changed in the last three
weeks and out about 6 miles, following the 100 fathom curve, with clean water
just off the beach. We did have a close encounter with tropical storm Eric,
with a port closure and 25-35 mile an hour winds along the coastal reaches. A
few hundred yards inland and we only had rain. For a tropical storm, we didn’t
get much rain either. In 24 hours, we only got about 4 inches, which is nothing
compared to the 6 inches in 4 hours or 12 inches in 12 hours we can get from
these storms.
A roosterfish coming to the boat |
Offshore
fishing
got back to normal starting Monday, and things should improve in the next
couple of weeks as the new moon was on Monday. The boats are averaging 2 to 3
sailfish a day each.
Most of the action starts from the outer edge of the current form weed
line at about 4 miles, and then on out to 14 miles.
The 38 foot Luhrs cruiser Had E
Nuff, acting as a private boat on Tuesday, with the owner on board, went
out to the 30 mile mark. They found 12 football sized yellowfin tuna at 27
miles, a huge 50 pound dorado, and released 2 sailfish.
