Z Fish Report (12/10/15)

Basically the big event for us here this week is the municipality has decided to do some repair work on the pier. They started yesterday (Wednesday). It is going to be a temporary band aid to just make sure the tourists aren’t inconvenienced this high season. But, if I know Mexicans; if it holds with bailing wire and gum, it will probably never get fixed until it falls apart again. The work is supposed to be completed in two weeks.

  Offshore – The new moon is tomorrow, and the fishing should really start kicking in. We are still getting dorado, but the sailfish bite slowed a bit this last week. And, early in the week there were reports of 45 to 60 pound yellowfin out 27 miles, but they have left the area now.  

Inshore is still strong for jack crevalle, roosters and sierras.

Adolfo (panga Dos Hermanos) has been fishing up north at the Ranch and doing well. He got 2 large roosters today, a few large jack crevalle, and a dorado on spin gear. Cheva, on the panga Dos Hermanos II got two nice roosters to 40 pounds, and several jacks on spin gear and live bait down near Barra Potosi today.

Fly fishing client Greg Corrado of the Seattle area fished down at Puerto Vicente Guerrero with Mark Denison of La Barrita. It was a tough morning, but the bite turned on mid-day. Greg had been using his 8wt for the black skipjacks and smaller jacks when he had a shot at a school of 5 nice roosters. You have to take the opportunity when it presents itself, and he did. A rooster inhaled the small fly with 20 pound leader (and no bite tippet). They got the rooster in and the photos for the release.

Greg switched to his 10wt and the medium sized jacks were too fast for the roosters following the hookless teaser. They were actually getting to the fly a moment before the roosters. Greg got a couple of those.
